SoulShine is BACK!!

SoulShiners -

After 3 more days of battling City of Atlanta, we have finally gotten their approval to be a daycare center!! I will be picking up the permit in the morning and scheduling our CO inspection directly after. We expect Bright from the Start to come out directly after they receive our CO (per Renee Parlier, Director of Applicant Services at Bright from the Start). We will schedule the CO inspection for Friday/Monday depending on availability. I do not foresee any issues as we are only seeking a conversion on our CO. Then it will be up to BFTS to follow through on their end.

So it is with immense excitement that I ask you...if and when you will be returning to SoulShine?! We ask in order to resend registration documents required by BFTS. We expect to be open by Wednesday at the latest but I will email you on Monday with the last minute timeline.

This process almost broke my spirit, but it has at the same time ignited a fiery passion within me to see justice given to the children of Georgia. For those of you patient and dedicated souls who have stood by me and SoulShine... I can never thank you enough. I began this journey December 20, 2006 because of the love I have for your children. And it's because of that love that I have only grown stronger. I will see you soon because NOTHING CAN STOP US NOW!

Quilts for Donation

In November, in preparation for the holidays, a group SoulShiners got together and sewed T-shirts to make a quilt to donate to the girls' orphanage in India during our Crafts of Change Club.

At the end of class, the kids used the left over T-shirts to design their own bags. Some decided to keep their bags and others are gifting them for the holidays! We all had a blast and look forward to our next class! Thanksgiving week camp was full of fun for everyone! We were able to squeeze in lots of play and even a trip to see Puss in Boots on Monday, which is a great movie. Then a trip to the Historic Fourth Ward Park was on Tuesday. SoulShine loves camp days where we get to spend the whole day with the sweet children.

SoulShiners love to get their hands dirty!!

Friday "Farm Days" at the Oakleaf Mennonite Farm has been a huge hit and the kids love to take a trip to the farm to learn a little about planting and growing plants and vegetables.

Well, last Friday, the farmer (Mr. Bremen) came to SoulShine so we could have a little piece of the farm right in our front yard!! With the help of the children we planted some lettuce, cabbage, cilantro, and chives.

The kids are already beginning to see their hard work come to fruition!

The adult classes have free childcare available if needed, so take advantage of this chance to learn something you've always wanted to know how to do while your babies are watched after by the SoulShine staff. SoulShine had a very Happy Halloween and we hope you did too!! Our little SoulShiners dressed up in the cutest costumes in town, but there was no candy in sight...we opted to treat with hugs, not candy! And, there were lots of hugs to go 'round!!

Pizza for Toomer

Our local pizza joint, Urban Pie, is raising money for our neighborhood Toomer Elementary's PTA and SoulShine wanted to help with their cause. And, what better way than surprising the kids with a pizza afternoon?! We wanted to give the children a little surprise for being the wonderful children that they are each and every day! The pizza was delicious and the weather was beautiful. Everyone had a great time!!
